English: Illustration of the SI system of units, with base units and defining constants used to define them: s - the frequency of the caesium transition for the second, kg - the mass of the IPK for the kilogram, mol - the mass in kilograms of an atom of carbon 12 for the mole, cd - the sensitivity of the human eye for the candela,
To change this template's initial visibility, the |state= parameter may be used: {{ SI units | state = collapsed }} will show the template collapsed, i.e. hidden apart from its title bar. {{ SI units | state = expanded }} will show the template expanded, i.e. fully visible.
The SI system after 1983, but before the 2019 revision: Dependence of base unit definitions on other base units (for example, the metre is defined as the distance travelled by light in a specific fraction of a second), with the constants of nature and artefacts used to define them (such as the mass of the IPK for the kilogram).
For example, the coherent derived SI unit of velocity is the metre per second, with the symbol m/s. [1]: 139 The base and coherent derived units of the SI together form a coherent system of units (the set of coherent SI units). A useful property of a coherent system is that when the numerical values of physical quantities are expressed in terms ...

This template was created from Template:SI derived units and Template:SI base units as they had substantial overlap; they were both also fairly small; so I have merged them. I think having all the SI related units in one place will be more useful. David Hollman 19:47, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
