The modern radar detectors seem to generally be smart enough to know which frequencies are used by cruise control and other active safety systems and avoid using them, in my experience. I had an old V1 about seven years ago that would get set off by Volvos and GM SUVs all the time, but all my newer radar detectors have been unbothered by active ...
It was developed in the early 1990s, and it detects older and new radar detectors on the market today. The VG-2 looks for the frequency produced by the radar detector's oscillator. The superheterodyne receiver in radar detectors has a local oscillator that radiates slightly. Source for Radar Detectors. Source for Radar Detector Detectors
Radar detectors are somewhat useful because radar is frequently installed in police cars and, unlike laser, it can be operated while the vehicle is in motion. So, many cops will have the radar on while they're cruising and a good radar detector will "see" that miles away under proper conditions.
It really depends on your area, a good number of areas still use nearly all radar. In my experience 50%+ of the time in my area, it's instant-on laser. The times when it's radar it's normally more urban areas where they are marked by Waze anyway. I don't use anything anymore because running a detector means you never get the benefit of the doubt.
Radar detectors were cool when the cops used radar. I don’t know if any that aren’t using lasers these days. Radar is still used extensively. The laser systems generally require stationary enforcement due to the required precision in picking up the return reflection so all the car-based mobile systems still use radar.
Radar detectors do not, and can not detect in-road vehicle sensors, which trigger all red light and speed cameras. Radar detectors do detect all sorts of range finding transmissions, like on every automatic door sensor on shops, and some high end collision avoidance systems. Your detector will be alerting you constantly.
Im looking at the Escort - MAX 360c which from my understanding is a decent one. As well are Radar Detectors really worth it right now since it seems like a ton of cars have all these safety sensors that could be setting the radar detector off. I do use Waze but wanted to have something as a backup just in case. Thanks for any advice!
A lot of radar detectors detect laser, but usually, by the time they go off the officer already has your speed. I have a radar detector, and its paid for itself in potential tickets. Laser cops are only stationary, and are relatively easy to avoid if you are paying attention (or, if you want to have fun with the car, scout the area ahead of ...
I rarely see cops running Ka band full time anymore. Most I talk to run LIDAR or another form of laser and will only spot Ka you if there is a group of cars that they can't hit quickly with the laser. It makes most radar detectors useless. My Valentine V1 hasn't been plugged in for a couple years.
As for radar detectors, the Max 360 is sort of a compromise on range. For the escort detectors, hit up the dealers on rdforum.org for decent discounts under MSRP. Max Range (but they might drive you mad inside the city): Get an Escort Redline / Magnum STI or a Valentine One… pair it with the Escargot Drive app or YaV1 (respectively) and an ...
