East Calais is an unincorporated village in the town of Calais, Washington County, Vermont, United States. The community is located along Vermont Route 14, 10.3 miles (16.6 km) northeast of Montpelier. East Calais has a post office with ZIP code 05650, which opened on April 12, 1830.
In the 19th century, the village was the economic center of the county. [5] Prior to incorporation, the village had been known as "Barton Mills." [6] Tourists from Boston and New York arrived by train and could register in one of three major hotels. [5] The village was incorporated on November 21, 1874. [7]
