Jay County Jr. - Sr.High School is a public high school located on the outskirts of Portland, Indiana. It was formed in 1975 as a consolidation of Bryant, Dunkirk, Pennville, Portland, and Redkey Indiana's individual high schools for the respective city. In 2020, the school was built to hold seventh and eight grade students. [1]

John Jay was built in 1968 and opened in September, 1969 to accommodate the growth of the Wappingers School District. Prior to its construction, Roy C. Ketcham High School was the district's only high school, 8 miles (13 km) away in Wappingers Falls. The 1973 graduating class was the first class to have completed four full years at John Jay HS.

Jay County lies on the east side of Indiana; its east border abuts the western border of Ohio. Its low, rolling terrain is entirely devoted to agriculture or urban development. [ 6 ] Its highest point (1,121 feet/342 meters ASL) is a small rise on the east border with Ohio, 2,600 feet north of the county's SE corner. [ 7 ]
