It is native to the Philippines, parts of Indonesia ( Borneo , Sumatra , and Sulawesi ), Malaysia , and Brunei , as well as parts of southern China and Taiwan.

Beaver Bay is located 3 miles southwest of Silver Bay, 24 miles northeast of Two Harbors, and 51 miles northeast of Duluth. It is along Minnesota Highway 61. Other routes include Lake County Road 4, Lax Lake Road. Split Rock Lighthouse State Park is 5 miles southwest of Beaver Bay.

The westmost point of the bay is at the city of Boston. The northern shore of Massachusetts Bay is rocky and irregular, but the southern shore is low, marshy, and sandy. Along the shores are a number of capes and headlands, and off the coast a number of small islands, especially in the entrance to Boston Harbor.
