Prayagraj (/ ˈ p r eɪ ə ˌ ɡ r ɑː dʒ, ˈ p r aɪ ə-/; ISO: Prayāgarāja), formerly Allahabad, is a metropolis in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. [8] [9] It is the administrative headquarters of the Prayagraj district, the most populous district in the state and 13th most populous district in India and the Prayagraj division.
The best known landmark in the locality is the Institute of Engineering and Rural Technology (26, Chatham Lines) and its student and staff accommodation (Ayodhya Hostel). A large part of the locality is under forest cover and is property of the Indian Armed Forces. Nearly 36 plots of land were given to eminent individuals of India in 1935.
