Lawrence Makoare (born 20 March 1968) is a New Zealand Māori actor. He is most known for his roles in The Lord of the Rings film series as several prominent antagonists, including Lurtz the Uruk-Hai and the Witch-King of Angmar .
He was cast to portray Bolg, son of Azog, in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, and completed a portion of the films' photography in makeup as the character. [2] He was subsequently replaced in the role by Lord of the Rings trilogy veteran Lawrence Makoare when Bolg was revamped into a completely CGI character. [2]
