Alvarado (/ ˌ æ l v ə ˈ r eɪ d oʊ / AL-və-RAY-doh) is the oldest city in Johnson County, Texas, United States.The population was 4,739 in 2020. [5]The community's first sheriff, A. H. Onstoott, is credited with naming Alvarado for Alvarado, Veracruz, Mexico, where he fought in a battle during the Mexican–American War.
The route was generally changed from 51 to 49 until the entire route became 49 in 1935. A new State Route 51 was certified in 1955, with its southern terminus where it is now and its northern terminus at then-State Route 120 (close to where I-280 is now) in Northwood. State Route 51 was extended to State Route 2 in Oregon in 1959.
U.S. Route 51 or U.S. Highway 51 (US 51) is a major south–north United States highway that extends 1,277 miles (2,055 km) from the western suburbs of New Orleans, Louisiana, to within 150 feet (46 m) of the Wisconsin–Michigan state line.
The route is accessible from southbound I-35 at exit 213, which serves Ranch to Market Road 150 (RM 150); the business loop designation begins along the frontage road at the end of the exit ramp. The road travels through Kyle and crosses RM 150 before once again becoming the southbound I-35 frontage road north of milemarker 213.
SH 51 begins at SH 207 southeast of Spearman and travels east through unincorporated Hansford County approximately 5.7 miles (9.2 km). [2] It is a two-lane route for its entire length, and has no intersections with other state-maintained routes until its terminus at FM 281, which continues to the east and south, and FM 760, which travels north to Spearman.
