Grays (or Grays Thurrock) [1] is the largest town in the borough and unitary authority area of Thurrock, in the ceremonial county of Essex, England. The town, which is both a former civil parish and one of Thurrock's traditional Church of England parishes , is located on the north bank of the River Thames .
Following significant population growth, largely associated with chemical manufacturing, a local board of health was established in Grays in 1886. [1] The board was succeeded by Grays Thurrock Urban District Council in 1894, [2] and council offices were established at No. 53 High Street.

Little Thurrock is on the north bank of the river Thames, about 25 miles (40 km) east of London. It was originally a separate settlement, but housing and other developments in the 20th century have resulted in a continuous built up area with Grays, of which Little Thurrock is now a part.
