Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai (12 August 1919 – 30 December 1971) was an Indian physicist and astronomer who initiated space research and helped to develop nuclear power in India. Often regarded as the " Father of Indian space program ", [ 2 ] Sarabhai was honored with Padma Bhushan in 1966 and the Padma Vibhushan (posthumously) in 1972.

She was the founder and director of the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts , an institute for imparting training in dance, drama, music and puppetry, in the city of Ahmedabad . [ 2 ]
Vikram Sarabhai was born on 12 August 1919 in Ahmedabad to Ambalal Sarabhai and his wife. His family, the Sarabhai family of India, were major industrialists committed to the Indian independence movement. [1]
The incoming prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri was involved in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and later appointed physicist Vikram Sarabhai as the head of the nuclear programme. Because of his non-violent Gandhian beliefs, Sarabhai was asked to direct the programme towards peaceful purposes rather than military development. [7]
She subsequently authored a biography of Vikram Sarabhai, titled Vikram Sarabhai: A Life, published in 2007. [16] [17] In it she wrote that Sarabhai "dreamed of using space technology for applications in agriculture, forestry, oceanography, geology, mineral prospecting and cartography, with a strict focus on peaceful ends".
