Battle Angel Alita, known in Japan as Gunnm (銃夢, Ganmu, lit. ' gun dream ' ) , [ a ] is a Japanese cyberpunk manga series created by Yukito Kishiro and originally published in Shueisha 's Business Jump magazine from 1990 to 1995.
Alita, or Gally (ガリィ, Garyi) in the original Japanese version, is the title character and the main protagonist of Yukito Kishiro's cyberpunk manga series Gunnm (also known as Battle Angel Alita in the English translation) and its sequels Last Order and Mars Chronicle.

The Battle Angel Alita manga series features a cast of characters designed by Yukito Kishiro. The series takes place around the city of Scrapyard where residents, of whom many are heavily modified by cybernetics to better cope with the hard life, are forced to make a living.
