In 1950, more than 50,000 acres (200 km 2) was purchased by the church and which is now known as Deseret Ranches. Deseret Ranches, now part of the Cattle division of AgReserves , encompasses 295,000-acres and extends across Orange, Osceola and Brevard counties and is seen as critical to the Orlando region's water supply. [ 15 ]
Florida State law, in 1948, required new school buildings be placed on parcels not less than 10 acres (40,000 m 2) in size. As the property under the existing school was not large enough, a site on Mill Street was chosen. A $50,000 school was erected during the winter and summers of 1948 and 1949. In 1950, an auditorium was completed.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.1 square miles (16 km 2), of which 6.1 square miles (16 km 2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km 2) (0.49%) is water. The elevation is about 100 feet (30 m), combined with an inland location, creates more temperature variation in the humid subtropical climate.
