De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is the debut studio album by Norwegian black metal band Mayhem.Songwriting began in 1987, [1] but due to the suicide of vocalist Per "Dead" Ohlin and the murder of guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, the album's release was delayed until May 1994.
Mayhem temporarily disbanded following Aarseth's murder, shortly before the release of their debut album, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, which is regarded as a classic of the black metal genre. Originators of the Northern Darkness is a tribute album to the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem, with contributions from some of the leading bands in the black metal and death metal scenes. When Hellhammer decided to revive Mayhem in 1994 after the deaths of both Euronymous and Dead, and the imprisonment of Count Grishnakh, he invited Kristiansen to return as the band's vocalist.
