Play is a 1991 album by the British new wave group Squeeze.It is the band's ninth album, and their only released by Reprise Records.It is the first LP in the Squeeze discography to feature only four official members instead of five (Steve Nieve took on many of the keyboard duties that would have gone to Jools Holland in the past).
Squeeze are a British rock band active from 1974 to 1982, from 1985 to 1999, and from 2007 to the present date. Founded by Glenn Tilbrook (guitar, vocals), Chris Difford (guitar, vocals), Jools Holland (keyboards) and Paul Gunn (drums), the group have released 15 studio albums, 14 compilation albums, 4 live albums, 1 extended play, 48 singles and 34 music videos.
"Crying in My Sleep" was the second single released from Squeeze's ninth album, Play, in the U.S. It was released only as a single-track, promotional CD, and reached number 14 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.
"Sunday Street" is the first single released from Squeeze's ninth album, Play. Although the song was never a hit, the single's B-side, "Maidstone," remains extremely popular among fans and was a frequent live request.
"Satisfied" is the second single released from Squeeze's ninth album, Play, in the UK, and the first in the United States. Although only a promotional radio single was released in the US, the song climbed to #3 on the Modern Rock charts there. In the band's homeland, a full commercial single release failed to chart at all.
Squeeze Play is an Ultra High Fidelity monaural phonographic album (33 1 ⁄ 3 RPM) which was released on the Dot Records label in 1956 (DLP-3024) [1] featuring John Serry Sr. It includes an original composition by Serry, classical works, and popular music of the era. [2] Ben Selvin serves as the musical director/producer for the album.
The CD Spot The Difference, a re-recording of Squeeze's classic hits, was released in August 2010 to accompany the tour. On the US tour, during a performance of "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)" live on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show, Stephen Large played the keyboard solo on an Apple iPad .
