Ocean Beach Park was founded in 1940 by the New London City Council in the aftermath of the 1938 New England Hurricane. [2] After the hurricane left the Ocean Beach property devastated by intrusive sands and ruined homes, the City Council determined that the best use of the property would be to use it as a public beach park.
