A ruined hunting lodge (pronounced like Altan Ower), at the head of Glen Ey (southern-end), in a small plantation of spruce and larch. Named from the nearby stream Alltan Odhar - dun streamlet (Watson 1975). A four-wheel drive road runs between Altanour Lodge and the public road at Inverey.
It has a permanent population of around 30 and several holiday cottages. At the end of the community is a large white-painted hunting lodge called Arnisdale House, built by architects Robert John Macbeth & Alexander Ross in 1898–1916.
