Gaara tries to crush Naruto with his sand. Thinking of Sakura, Sasuke and his friends, Naruto uses his own chakra to summon Gamabunta. Gaara forces himself to sleep and allows Shukaku to take over. Needing to get close to Shukaku to wake Gaara up, Naruto and Gamabunta transform into a replica of the Nine-Tails to fight.

Naruto and Sakura rest. Lady Tsunade informs Naruto and Sakura that they, alongside Kakashi, will be known as Team Kakashi, going on missions as Shinobi of the Leaf - equal in status. Meanwhile, Deidara plants a bomb inside Gaara's shield but Gaara prevents it using sand body armour.
At the same time, Gaara brings Naruto to Tsunade with Sakura attempting to keep Naruto alive. However, Tobi Zetsu and White Zetsu reveal that Naruto is on the verge of death since Yang Kurama was extracted from him. As grief overtakes both Sakura and Karin, the two realize that Naruto and Sasuke will both die if things continue like this.
As Minato and Kakashi Hatake prepare to force Black Zetsu off Obito, Yin-Kurama alerts Minato to Gaara and Sakura's arrival. After learning the situation, Minato decides to transfer Yin-Kurama into Naruto while Gaara helps Kakashi in holding off Black Zetsu. But the transference is intercepted by Black Zetsu as he absorbs the Nine-Tails chakra.
Onoki and Mu trade blows to each other until Gaara arrives to assist Onoki. Shocked, Gaara sees Naruto delivering Mu with his Planetary Rasengan which Mu quickly evades but with the support of Gaara, Naruto manages to land his new Rasengan jutsu to Mu. Just as Mu to be sealed, Mu utters a warning yet the sealing stops his talking.
