The Theatre Royal Stratford East (commonly referred to as just Stratford East) is a 460 seat Victorian producing theatre in Stratford in the London Borough of Newham.Since 1953, it has been the home of the Theatre Workshop company, famously associated with director Joan Littlewood, whose statue is outside the theatre.
Miss Littlewood is a stage musical with music, lyrics and book by Sam Kenyon. It is based on the life of theatre director Joan Littlewood and the formation of the Theatre Workshop which found residency at Theatre Royal Stratford East.

The Big Life is a British ska musical with book and lyrics by Paul Sirett and music by Paul Joseph, originally produced by the Theatre Royal Stratford East in 2004. It combines Shakespeare's Love's Labours Lost with the story of the Windrush immigrants [1] [2] (those Jamaicans who arrived in Britain aboard HMT Empire Windrush in 1948, which began an era of multiculturalism).

Stephen Sondheim first conceived of a musical version of the story in 1973, after he saw Bond's take on the story at Theatre Royal Stratford East. [2] Bond's sophisticated plot and language significantly elevated the lurid nature of the tale. Sondheim once observed, "It had a weight to it ... because [Bond] wrote certain characters in blank verse.

On May 10, 2017, the play made its world premiere at the Theatre Royal Stratford East in Stratford, London. [2] It was directed by Cora Bissett, and starred Witney Wright as Ma. The role of Jack was shared by Darmani Eboji, Taye Kassim Junaid-Evans, and Harrison Wilding. [3]
