IC 443 (also known as the Jellyfish Nebula and Sharpless 248 ) is a galactic supernova remnant (SNR) in the constellation Gemini. On the plane of the sky, it is located near the star Eta Geminorum. Its distance is roughly 5,000 light years from Earth. IC 443 may be the remains of a supernova that occurred 30,000 - 35,000 years ago.
Astronomers from the INAF-Palermo Astronomical Observatory modeled a supernova remnant called IC 443 or the Jellyfish Nebula, showing just how weird they can get.
NGC 7027 has a rich and highly ionized spectrum caused by its hot central star. [7] The progenitor star of NGC 7027 is believed to have been about 3 to 4 times the mass of the Sun before the nebula was formed. [7] It is possible that the central white dwarf of NGC 7027 has an accretion disk that acts as a source of high temperatures. [24]
Messier 30 (also known as M30, NGC 7099, or the Jellyfish Cluster) is a globular cluster of stars in the southeast of the southern constellation of Capricornus, at about the declination of the Sun when the latter is at December solstice.
IC 405, also Sharpless 229 (Sh2-229), Caldwell 31 and The Flaming Star Nebula, is an emission/reflection nebula and a Caldwell object in the constellation Auriga, surrounding the bluish star AE Aurigae. It shines at magnitude +6.0. The nebula is about 5 light-years across. This is a white light image of the Flaming Star Nebula showing the ...
A swarm of jellyfish was spotted in a river in Yokohama, Japan, on 6 June. Footage shows hundreds of the white translucent creatures floating just below the water's surface. Local officials said a ...
NGC 7635, also known as the Bubble Nebula, Sharpless 162, or Caldwell 11, is an H II region [1] emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It lies close to the open cluster Messier 52 . The "bubble" is created by the stellar wind from a massive hot, 8.7 [ 1 ] magnitude young central star , SAO 20575 ( BD+60°2522 ). [ 7 ]
