Acadia Parish (French: Paroisse de l'Acadie) is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. At the 2020 U.S. census , the population was 57,576. [ 1 ] The parish seat and the most populous municipality is Crowley . [ 2 ]

The region consists of seven parishes: Acadia, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, and Vermilion Parishes. As of the 2010 census, the CSA had a population of 604,784 (though a 2015 estimate placed the population at 627,146). [3] The CSA is home to a large Cajun population and is also known as the "Cajun heartland". [citation needed]
The U.S. state of Louisiana has a total of ten metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs); 37 of Louisiana's sixty-four (64) parishes are classified as metropolitan. [1] According to the 2020 United States census, these parishes had a combined population of 3,918,560 (84.1% of the state's population).
In 1971, the Louisiana State Legislature officially recognized 22 Louisiana parishes and "other parishes of similar cultural environment" for their "strong French Acadian cultural aspects". [13] It made "The Heart of Acadiana" the official name of the region, although the term Acadiana is the more common name for the region. [ 14 ]
