2017 Punjab Legislative Assembly election for the constitution of the Fifteenth Legislative Assembly was held in the Indian state of Punjab [1] on 4 February 2017 to elect the 117 members of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. The counting of votes was done on 11 March 2017.
To constitute India's 17th Lok Sabha, general elections were held in April–May 2019. The results were announced on 23 May 2019. The main contenders were two alliance groups of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance and the opposition United Progressive Alliance led by the Indian National Congress.
In the 2014 general elections, the first-time contesting Aam Aadmi Party got 4 out of 13 seats in Punjab by winning 34 of the total 117 assembly segments, coming second in 7, third in 73 and fourth in the rest 3 segments. [20] The support for the Aam Aadmi Party increased later in Punjab.
