Katz, 546 U.S. 356 (2006), is a United States Supreme Court case holding that the Bankruptcy Clause of the Constitution abrogates state sovereign immunity. It is significant as one of only three cases allowing Congress to use an Article I power to authorize individuals to sue states, the others being PennEast Pipeline Co. v.
Katz pursued Lazarfeld's research in a study of the flow of information, which is the basis of Personal Influence. Katz and Lazarsfeld concluded that: "... the traditional image of the mass persuasion process must make room for 'people' as intervening factors between the stimuli of the media and resultant opinions, decisions, and actions." [2]
Katz is the son of the historian Friedrich Katz and Jana Badian Katz. Katz earned his B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1979. [1] He earned both a master's degree in economics from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1982. [1] He graduated with honors and earned the Order of the Coif.
