Bioptics (device) Bioptics, also known as a bioptic in the singular, and sometimes more formally termed a bioptic telescope, is a term for a pair of vision -enhancement lenses. They magnify between two and six times, and are used to improve distance vision for those with severely impaired eyesight, especially those with albinism.
The longer the focal length of the eyepiece, the greater the eye relief. Typical telescopic sights may have eye relief ranging from 25 mm (0.98 in) to over 100 mm (3.9 in), but telescopic sights intended for scout rifles or handguns need much longer eye relief to present a non-vignetted image.
Corrective lens. A corrective lens is a transmissive optical device that is worn on the eye to improve visual perception. The most common use is to treat refractive errors: myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Glasses or "spectacles" are worn on the face a short distance in front of the eye.
Adjustable focus lenses, like single-focus lenses, also reduce image-jump and spatial distortion in the field of view associated with traditional multi-focal lenses. Additionally, the ideal near-vision correction can be achieved with precision, because the variable lenses emulate the focusing action of the youthful (non-presbyopic) eye.
Adaptive optics ( AO) is a technique of precisely deforming a mirror in order to compensate for light distortion. It is used in astronomical telescopes [ 1] and laser communication systems to remove the effects of atmospheric distortion, in microscopy, [ 2] optical fabrication [ 3] and in retinal imaging systems [ 4] to reduce optical aberrations.
A magnifying glass, which uses a positive (convex) lens to make things look bigger by allowing the user to hold them closer to their eye. A telescope, which uses its large objective lens or primary mirror to create an image of a distant object and then allows the user to examine the image closely with a smaller eyepiece lens, thus making the ...
