Re: Win32:Rootkit-gen [Rtk] virus removal. Also be sure to check c:/windows/tasks. My copy of rootkit put a task in there to run a randomly named file (i.e. kjdjkhda.exe) every hour. Avast reported the virus every hour in a file of another random name (oshelai.dll) in my windows\system32 directory.
Can Avast remove "startpage-home.com" (some kind of browser hijacker virus ) For some reason, this strange "startpage-home.com" is able to hijack my Chrome's start page once awhile. From Chrome's settings, I couldn't find anything like that on my add-on extension, my Chrome's start page remains the start page I want, and my default search ...

Press Winkey + X - select RUN - enter MRT.EXE - click OK - click YES on the popup panel - Click NEXT -select QUICK SCAN and you are away. Takes just a few minutes. Logged.

Another possibility that these could also be virus signatures used in the scans and the signatures could be picked up.
FYI: The reason why javaw.exe is being detected rather then the AutoUpdater.jar file, is because Java runs the Jar File. Java can't tell if it's malicious or not. You see the same thing with games like Minecraft that use .JAR files. When you lunch minecraft, you're launching javaw.exe*32.
Re: Win32:Malware-gen: Avast keeps finding this malware. Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box. Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself. Click Start. Open My Computer. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
