Currently, there are 3 different levels of basic training provided at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III). These range from 4 weeks in duration to as many as 15 weeks. What is the Tier III training program designed to accomplish?
“Prebasic” is a forty (40) hour class designed to comply with I.C. §5-2-1-9(f), and serves two (2) primary functions in law enforcement: Successful completion permits a new police hire to be paid to enforce Indiana criminal law for a one-year period after the date of hire. I.C. §5-2-1-9(e).
The Indiana Law Enforcement Academy offers online classes as self guided study for anyone who would like to take them. Indiana Law Enforcement Officers may receive credit for successfully completing these classes.
The ILEAA instituted a Commemorative Brick Project which recognizes donors and officers, past and present, in the law enforcement services. A portion of the brick sales will then be dedicated to helping support Academy training functions and purchasing Academy equipment.

The Indiana Law Enforcement Academy will permit Full time out of State Police Officers to attend in-service classes if there are openings left in the class. Each class has a limit on how many students may attend the class.
