"Yoda" is a song by "Weird Al" Yankovic from his third album, Dare to Be Stupid (1985). It is a parody of the song " Lola " by the Kinks . Inspired by the events of the movie The Empire Strikes Back , the song is told from the point of view of Jedi -in-training Luke Skywalker and concerns his dealings with Master Yoda on the planet Dagobah .
This version of "Yoda" was a hit on The Dr. Demento Show, and even managed to hit, and hold onto, number one on the Funny Five countdown for several weeks. [8] This early demo was later released on the sixth volume of Dr. Demento's Basement Tapes. [9] After the success of the demo version, Yankovic wanted to put the song on one of his albums. [4]
Lyrics and style [ edit ] Lyrically, the song encourages the listener to be stupid in various ways; mostly by advising them to do the opposite of common idioms (e.g. " let the bedbugs bite " or " put all your eggs in one basket "), with the occasional absurd non sequitur (e.g. "stick your head in the microwave and get yourself a tan").
