The GCE saw changes in syllabus content at the ordinary and advanced levels in some science subjects in order to adapt to the world's advancing school program. GCE O Level, IGCSE and GCE AS/A Levels are managed by British examination boards of CIE of the Cambridge Assessment and Edexcel of the Pearson PLC. Advanced Placement (AP) is an alternative option but much less common than GCE or IGCSE. This replaces the secondary school education as "high school education" instead.
It was split into two stages: Ordinary Level (O Level, taken at 16) and Advanced Level (A Level, taken at 18). A student typically studies four subjects at Cambridge International AS-Level and finishes three of those subjects at Cambridge International A-Level.
