Inuyasha (犬夜叉, lit. "Dog Yaksha") is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi.It was serialized in Shogakukan's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday from November 1996 to June 2008, with its chapters collected in 56 tankōbon volumes.
The story shifts back to fourteen years ago with Kagome and her friends living in the feudal era. Inuyasha and Miroku meet the Root Head, a demon whom Kikyō sealed many decades ago. The Root Head attacks Kagome, but Inuyasha destroys it, though a small part of the demon has survived.
Inuyasha, Kagome, Miroku, Sango and Shippo head to town, where the sacrifice of the firstborns are mercifully offered to an arrogant water god. The four are hired by the village headman's son, Taromaru, to save his friend, Suekichi. Inuyasha, Kagome and Shippo destroy the false water god, while Miroku and Sango search and free the true one.
