Mentha longifolia, also known as horse mint, [1] brookmint, [2] fillymint or St. John's horsemint, is a species of plant in the family Lamiaceae. It is native to Europe excluding Britain and Ireland, [3] western and central Asia (east to Nepal and far western China), and northern and southern (but not tropical) Africa. [4][5][6]

It is 30–100 cm (12–39 in) tall, with variably hairless to hairy stems and foliage, and a wide-spreading fleshy underground rhizome from which it grows. The leaves are 5–9 cm (2– in) long and 1.5–3 cm (– in) broad, with a serrated margin.
Peppermint is an herbaceous, rhizomatous, perennial plant that grows to be 30–90 cm (12–35 in) tall, with smooth stems, square in cross section. The rhizomes are wide-spreading and fleshy, and bear fibrous roots. The leaves can be 4–9 cm (11⁄2 – 31⁄2 in) long and 1.5–4 cm (1⁄2 – 11⁄2 in) broad.
