Akhtar Mohiuddin (born Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani; 17 April 1928 – 2001), was a Kashmiri novelist, playwright and short story writer, who made significant contribution to the development of modern Kashmiri literature. [1] Born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, his novel, Dod Dag is considered as the first novel written and published in Kashmiri.

Urdu literature (Urdu: ادبیاتِ اُردُو, “Adbiyāt-i Urdū”) comprises the literary works, written in the Urdu language.While it tends to be dominated by poetry, especially the verse forms of the ghazal (غزل) and nazm (نظم), it has expanded into other styles of writing, including that of the short story, or afsana (افسانہ).
