The Council Tower of Sibiu (Romanian: Turnul Sfatului, German: Hermannstädter Ratsturm) is a tower situated between the two main squares of the Historic center in Sibiu, the Great Square (Piața Mare) and the Small Square (Piața Mică).
The first records of Sibiu, founded by Transylvanian Saxons, are from the year 1191. Since 1366, the town has been known as Hermannstadt and was the capital of the Saxon settlement in Transylvania. The Saxon University was founded in the town in the 15th century and in 1543, Sibiu was the centre of the Reformation in the region.

Sibiu County (Romanian pronunciation:) is a county (Romanian: județ) of Romania, in the historical region of Transylvania. Its county seat ( Romanian : reședință de județ ) is the namesake town of Sibiu ( German : Hermannstadt ).
The natural park was a favoured promenade location for inhabitants of Sibiu as early as the 18th century. It is known nowadays for the ASTRA National Museum Complex. The defunct tram line connecting Sibiu with Rasinari can also be seen from there. The Municipal Cemetery, opened in 1907, is located on the south side of the park's woods. [6]
