Deborah Roberts (born 1962) is an American contemporary artist.Roberts is a mixed media collage artist whose figurative works depict the complexity of Black subjecthood and explores themes of race, identity, and gender politics taking on the subject of otherness as understood against the backdrop of existing societal norms of race and beauty. Aldwyth was born Mary Aldwyth Dickman, November 21, 1935 in Pomona, CA to Paul William Dickman, a U.S. Naval Chaplain, and Muriel Margaret Jones Dickman. [2] In 1953, she attended American University, where she studied painting with Ben "Joe" Summerford, and in 1954–1955, she spent a year at the University of Hawaii, studying with Jean Charlot. [3]
She exhibited new collage works, Eunice Parsons, La Centenaire, at the Roll-Up Photo Studio Gallery in Portland to celebrate her centennial year in 2016. [10] At age 100 in 2017, she was the only remaining living artist from the 2004 group exhibition, "Northwest Matriarchs of Modernism", at Marylhurst University's gallery, The Art Gym. [12]
