Carl Sandburg College is a public community college with its main campus in Galesburg, Illinois. The college serves the west-central Illinois region, has a branch campus in Carthage and an off-campus site in downtown Galesburg. The college was established in 1966 and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

The school opened as Southwestern Junior College in 1961 with William Kepley as its president. The dean of admissions was Saxon Wright. The Chula Vista Star-News reported that 15 students had registered within the first half hour the dean of admission's office was open, with Oliver Pittenger, a graduate of the nearby Chula Vista High School being the first person to enroll.
In 1973, the term "junior college" was changed to "community college" by statute, but one college (Joliet Junior College) in the system has retained the term "junior" in its name. Community college district numbers are given for each district. Some colleges were established by school districts prior to being organized as college districts.

Both the Carl Sandburg High School debate team and speech team are recognized by the National Speech and Debate Association (formerly the National Forensics League). The Model United Nations club hosts an annual conference [27] and competes at conferences across the country. Carl Sandburg High School currently has five bands, all co-curricular.
