The Bent County Correctional Facility is a private medium-security prison for men located in Las Animas, Bent County, Colorado.The facility is owned and operated by CoreCivic under contract with the Colorado Department of Corrections and houses Colorado inmates.
The Bent County Courthouse and Jail, of Bent County, Colorado, at 725 Carson Ave. in Las Animas, was built in 1887. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976; the listing included two contributing buildings. [1] The courthouse building was built and furnished for a total of $58,429, during 1886–1889.

This was probably a coal mining tunnel as Engleville was a coal mining camp where this POW camp is purported to be located. Coal mining was prominent in the late 1870s to the 1950s.
