Hairmyres is an area of the town of East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is situated on the west side of the town, on the historical main road to Eaglesham and Kilmarnock. Nearby roads connect Hairmyres to the major A726 Queensway/Glasgow Southern Orbital dual carriageway.
It is the town's largest residential area, forming most of the East Kilbride East multi-member electoral ward, which had a recorded overall population of 14,308 in 2019; [3] the remainder of the neighbourhood (west of Calderwood Road, east of the Kingsway dual carriageway bypass, including Maxwellton) is in the East Kilbride Central North ward.
The district was one of five in Strathclyde's Lanark sub-region, and took its name from the district's main town, being the new town of East Kilbride. The district also contained the rural area to the south of East Kilbride itself, which included the small town of Strathaven and the villages of Chapelton, Glassford and Thorntonhall.
