Ready-to-use VMs with Microsoft or Apple operating systems installed, in particular, were not distributed, except for evaluation versions. VMware Player supported free-of-charge VMware Tools, which added significant functionality. Versions of Player for different platforms had their own Tools, not necessarily compatible with other versions.
The latest release is Microsoft System Center 2022 Virtual Machine Manager UR2, which was released in November 2023. It added features in the areas of support for VMware VMs with disk size greater than 2TB, Linux guest operating systems - Ubuntu Linux 22.04, Debian 11, Oracle Linux 8 and 9.

[11] VMware Fusion 13 retains support for Intel Macs, distributing the software as a universal binary. [12]
vmfs-tools supports more VMFS features and read only VMFS mounts through the standard Linux VFS and the FUSE framework. Developed by Christophe Fillot and Mike Hommey and available as source code download at the glandium.org vmfs-tools page [ 10 ] or the Debian vmfs-tools [ 11 ] and Ubuntu vmfs-tools [ 12 ] packages .
