The school has a good pass mark rate record, which has seen a lot of the pupils who have attended this school go to the main University of Zambia, Copperbelt University, National Institutes for Public Administration (NIPA), Natural Resources Development College (NRDC), Mulungushi University and other institutions of higher learning.

Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya, established in 1940 and it is the largest co-educational institution and the most populated suburban school in Sri Lanka. [citation needed] The school is situated on a land donated by Anagarika Dharmapala, whom the school is named after. The school was upgraded to National school status in 1991. [1]
The school library was set up in 1982 with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Library Services Board. In 1996, a program titled "Library Week" was inaugurated during the "Reading Month". Library facilities are provided to all the pupils of the school and there are two libraries separately; one for Primary Grades and other for seniors.
The school's name was changed to David Kaunda Secondary Technical School to offer senior secondary school education up to the 'A' levels in 1965. It was a boys school until 1993, when the school opened its doors to the first girls and has hitherto been a co-education boarding school. In 1995, the first grade 12 girl students graduated.
