Buckhannon Central Residential Historic District is a national historic district located at Buckhannon, Upshur County, West Virginia.The district encompasses 344 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, 11 contributing structures, and 2 contributing objects in Buckhannon.
The City of Buckhannon was established on January 15, 1816, possible named for Buckongahelas [8] (1720-1805), the legendary Lenape Chief. A statue of Buckongahelas and his fallen son, crafted by Buckhannon sculptor Ross Straight, was erected in Buckhannon West Virginia’s Jawbone Park in 2000. [9]
The eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 33 near Norton, West Virginia. CR 151 is the former alignment of US 33 which was bypassed by the completion of Corridor H of the Appalachian Development Highway System between Buckhannon and Elkins in 1994, [2] and was designated as part of the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike National Scenic Byway in 2005. William Post Mansion, also known as the Post Mansion Inn, is a historic home located at Buckhannon, Upshur County, West Virginia. It was originally built in the 1860s and extensively renovated in 1891 in the Neo-Classical Revival style. It is a 2 + 1 ⁄ 2-story, brick dwelling with a three-story stone tower.
