Charles Dillon was a British furniture designer. He and his wife, Jane Dillon ran an international design studio between 1971 and 1982 making significant contributions to furniture design and lighting design across America and Europe. Their studio archives are held at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
The Taylor Companies, consisting of The Taylor Chair Company and The Taylor Desk Company, was an American manufacturer of upholstered wood office seating and wood casegoods. Taylor’s primary manufacturing plant and headquarters were located in Bedford, Ohio. It also had a second manufacturing plant located in Lynwood, California.
The company produced furniture for 14 years, and went through the following periods: classic, transitional, and middle. Toward the end of its manufacturing career, the company began making rather mundane furniture that did not look like Monterey style, but was a revival of American Colonial. [2]
Kroehler /ˈkreɪlə/ [1] Manufacturing Company was a furniture company and was originally incorporated as the Naperville Lounge Company, on March 9, 1893. [2] It was founded by ten original stockholders. In 1896, Peter Kroehler, an employee, offered to purchase the stockholder's interest at its book value.
The company is the licensed manufacturer of furniture designed by architects and designers such as Harry Bertoia, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich, Florence Knoll, Frank Gehry, Charles Gwathmey, Maya Lin, Marcel Breuer, Eero Saarinen, and Lella and Massimo Vignelli, [3] under the company's KnollStudio division.
In 1966, the company changed its name to Interco as the result of diversification, and once the company exited the shoe business, adopted the name Furniture Brands International. Some of the brands it owned in the furniture industry included Broyhill, Thomasville, Drexel Heritage, Henredon, Hickory Chair, Pearson, Laneventure, and Maitland-Smith.
To compete in a changing industry, Mohasco gradually moved manufacturing south into the Carolinas and eventually Georgia. In 1963, the company turned some of its attention to furniture manufacturing through acquisitions. Carpet manufacturing at the Amsterdam site ended by 1968 and the last corporate offices left by 1987. [9]
