As of 2024, the entire Vietnam expressway system has been opened to traffic with 2,021 kilometres (1,256 mi) and is investing in building about 1,542 kilometres (958 mi). It is expected that by the end of 2025 there will be about 3,000 kilometres (1,900 mi) of expressway and by 2030 it will reach 5,000 kilometres (3,100 mi).

The North–South Expressway West (Vietnamese: Đường cao tốc Bắc – Nam phía Tây) is a partially completed expressway in Vietnam. When completed, it will form a road parallel to the North-South Expressway along with National Route 1 and Vietnam Coastal Road.
There are two national highways – National Route 1A and Ho Chi Minh Highway – and the North–South railway running along the length of the province, the Cha Lo Border Gate Economic Zone, which extends into Laos, and Hon La deep water seaport which is capable of vessels of 30,000–50,000 tonnes.
