The University of Dubuque is a member of NCAA Division III, and is part of the American Rivers Conference, which, in addition to the University of Dubuque, currently includes Buena Vista University, Coe College, Central College, Luther College, Loras College, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Simpson College, and Wartburg College.
The Dubuque Spartans football team represents the University of Dubuque in college football at the NCAA Division III level. The Spartans are members of the American Rivers Conference (ARC), fielding its team in the ARC since 1929 when it was the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC).

The arena is home to the 5-time Clark Cup Champion Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL. Owned by the City of Dubuque and operated by Schmitt Island Development Corp., the facility is Dubuque's first dedicated ice arena. The center plays host to youth and adult hockey, public skate, figure skating, and other ice activities.
