Ankylosauria is a group of herbivorous dinosaurs of the clade Ornithischia.It includes the great majority of dinosaurs with armor in the form of bony osteoderms, similar to turtles.

Ankylosaurus is thought to have been a slow-moving animal, able to make quick movements when necessary. Its broad muzzle indicates it was a non-selective browser . Sinuses and nasal chambers in the snout may have been for heat and water balance or may have played a role in vocalization.

Thyreophoroidea was first named by Nopcsa in 1928 and defined by Sereno in 1986, as "Scelidosaurus, Ankylosaurus, their most recent common ancestor and all of its descendants". [6]
