The Ogden Utah Temple renovation project differed greatly from other recent temple renovations, in that the new design bore little resemblance to the original temple design. The old tabernacle was for a time abandoned, and then used as the local genealogical library for the Ogden Branch of the Genealogical Society of Utah from 1966 to 1971. The tabernacle was torn down beginning in August 1971 to allow landscaping to be completed prior to the open house of the Ogden Utah Temple. [6] [7]

The temple was the second temple to be completed in Utah and is the church's sixth largest. The temple has a total floor area of 115,507 square feet (10,731.0 m 2 ) with 4 ordinance rooms , 11 sealing rooms (used to perform marriages ), and one baptistry. [ 6 ]
