The Brisbane Tramway Museum Society was established in 1968, when it became apparent that the Brisbane City Council was preparing to close Brisbane's tram system. In 1972, a site at Ferny Grove was made available and a museum built, opening in June 1980.

Ferny Way State School opened on 27 January 1970. In 1973 it was renamed Ferny Hills State School. [5] Patricks Road State School opened on 24 January 1977. [5] Until 2006, a notable feature of Ferny Hills was the Australian Woolshed, which was an Australian farming and wildlife attraction featuring shows and animal exhibits.
The line formerly extended to Dayboro, but was cut back to Ferny Grove in 1955, as part of a larger rationalisation by the Queensland Government of its railway lines.
