In 1976, the Jackson County legislature changed the name of the hospital to Truman Medical Center-East. The hospital has undergone several expansions, including a $24 million expansion between 1995 and 1997, and a $38 million 175,000-square foot expansion in 2003. [ 2 ]
Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center is designated as a Level II trauma center and, as of 2021, has the second busiest emergency department in the nation with over 190,500 visits per year. On February 1, 2024, UCI Health, part of the University of California, Irvine agreed to purchase Lakewood Regional Medical Center from Tenet Healthcare. [22] [23] [24] On March 27, UCI Health officially took over the management of Lake Regional Medical Center [25] [26] [27] and rebranded it to UCI Health – Lakewood.
