The institute started functioning from the 2016–17 academic year in August. IISER Berhampur offers a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (BS-MS) dual-degree, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), and Integrated Ph.D. (i-Ph.D.) degrees in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Sciences.

Eligibility criteria for NEST-2022:- Candidates in General and OBC category should be born on or after August 1, 2002. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Divyangjan candidates.
