The Bloods are a primarily African-American street gang which was founded in Los Angeles, California.The gang is widely known for its rivalry with the Crips.It is identified by the red color worn by its members and by particular gang symbols, including distinctive hand signs.
The Bloods were formed in response to widespread shootings by the Crips. Both groups started extorting money from local businesses in the 70s, and distributing crack cocaine in the early 1980s. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) fought heavily against the gangs; in 1987, they started an intense anti-gang operation, Operation Hammer.
