Sebring Regional Airport was originally constructed in 1940 as Hendricks Field, a B-17 Flying Fortress crew training base of the US Army Air Corps, later the US Army Air Forces. In 1940, Sebring officials and citizens contacted their Florida congressional delegation to see about getting an Army base in the area.
