Blackman is an unincorporated community in Rutherford County, Tennessee, located on the west side of the city of Murfreesboro. [1] The community was founded in 1808 and was originally named Blackman's Shop. By the time of the Civil War, it had a store, doctor's offices, a school, and churches. [2] The Blackman post office was established in 1898.
The 2010 Blackman football team had a record of 10–1 and advanced the furthest ever in the playoffs, losing to Smyrna High School in the third round, for the second time that season. In 2013, the Blackman football team reached the TSSAA Class 6A semifinals before falling 28–16 to eventual state champion Maryville.

Most of the base housing is in Kentucky, the school was originally on the Kentucky side of the base, and it is operated by the Kentucky District of the U.S. Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools, along with all other schools on Fort Campbell and the schools on the Fort Knox base situated entirely in Kentucky.
