The history of shopping malls in Texas began with the oldest shopping center in the United States, Highland Park Village, which opened in 1931 in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. [1] The latter and Greater Houston area are both home to numerous regional shopping malls and shopping centers located in various areas of the city.
The Parks Mall at Arlington is a shopping mall that opened in 1988 at 3811 South Cooper Street and Interstate 20 in South Arlington, Texas between Fort Worth and Dallas. It went through a renovation in 1996. It is one of the leading shopping destinations in the Metroplex.
In 1988, Homart, a then-subsidiary of Sears, planned to develop a million-square foot mall in Frisco, which consisted of roughly 6,000 people at the time.
